Investment and tourism promotion agency Cabo Verde Investimentos has approved a package of six new projects promoted by Cape Verdean and foreign interests with a total estimated worth of some 400 million euros.
According to Cabo Verde Investimentos president Alexandre Fontes, despite the worldwide real-estate crisis, Cape Verde continues to attract investors from various parts of the world.
Fontes explained that the investments in question will be made in the areas of tourism and industry, and added that all of them have a scheduled date to begin in the near future.
The president of Cabo Verde Investimentos also announced that the agency expects to approve an even larger investment package before the end of the year, budgeted at nearly two billion euros. This second package is being promoted entirely by Irish investors in the real estate and tourism sectors. The projects that are a part of this second package will be executed over the course of five years and should generate thousands of new job posts.
Alexandre Fontes acknowledges that the international real-estate crisis has to some degree affected the boom that was expected in Cape Verde, but says that, even so, the archipelago continues to attract investors from various countries. According to Fontes, for the time being the crisis has mainly affected British and Irish investors.
